I've not come back here looking for a fight - Alice Royal part 1
I should really share more about my crafts but for some reason I've been wanting to keep them close to my heart lately and not posting much publicly. I know it's mostly a result of some health issues and not the best course of action, so I'll try and do some dumb little WIP posts for my dumb little mental health, as one does.
Just like Misstitched, the Royal Alice dress started mostly because I happened to find the suitable materials and thought it's not a big project to do while trying to recover. (Especially since I can share the boots, leggings and the wig between them.) My original plan was to finish it for Desucon but realized some of the bigger rhinestones won't arrive on time, so no new Alice for Sibeliustalo.
I was able to use the same pattern from Misstitched for the bodice, so I only needed to work on the sleeves. It took a while to find a suitable corduroy for it, especially since there's two different sizes of wale in the design. I decided to go with the wide and trim it in half where needed. Something that absolutely no-one will notice but still, it would've bothered me otherwise.
I started with the smaller easier parts, the sleeves and the apron. I opted for a yellow-gold fabric paint for the yellow/gold parts, to have them as uniform in color as possible. Also you can see the corduroy texture through it so that ruled out any applications.
For the diamond pattern on the bodice I went with application because it's one of the places where the texture doesn't show through. Once I started having separate pieces prepared I threw them on the mannequin to see where it's going.

The apron was made from stuff I mostly had in stock, so there's not much to comment here. I used a double sided interfacing to attach the spade because I didn't want any turned edges or visible top stitching on it. I first cut the interfacing to shape, ironed it on and then cut the fabric to match.

I absolutely had to do some quilting shenanigans to make sure I get everything from this piece of fabric. After cutting everything I realized I had still missed one piece.. but managed to scrape it too somehow.

I again used Blender to model Yves, this time with places for some lights, battery and a power button.

There's still some things left to do and put together, but I'm hoping to be done this month and get at least a couple of photos to share. I'll try to take some more WIP's and photos of the finished pieces, and get back with an Alice journal part 2.
